Library Goals & Expectations

Kindergarten

By the end of the year, kindergarten library students will be able to:

  • listen to a story and answer comprehension questions
  • locate books alphabetically by the author’s last name
  • access the library system on a technology device

1st Grade

By the end of the year, 1st Grade library students will be able to:

  • listen to a fiction or non-fiction piece of writing and answer comprehension questions.
  • locate and shelve books alphabetically by the author’s last name.
  • access the library system on a technology device
  • explain what it means to be safe when using a technology device

2nd Grade

By the end of the year, 2nd Grade library students will be able to:

  • listen to a fiction or non-fiction piece of writing comprehension questions.
  • locate and shelve books either by alphabetical or Dewey decimal system order.
  • access and search the library system on a technology device
  • demonstrate safe use of a technology device
  • explain stranger danger when using the internet

3rd Grade

By the end of the year, 3rd Grade library students will be able to:

  • listen to a fiction or non-fiction piece of and answer comprehension questions.
  • locate and shelve books either by alphabetical or Dewey decimal system order.
  • access and search the library system on a technology device
  • demonstrate safe use of a technology device
  • explain stranger danger when using the internet
  • compare and contrast appropriate and inappropriate uses of technology

4th Grade

By the end of the year, 4th Grade library students will be able to:

  • listen to a fiction or non-fiction piece of writing and answer comprehension questions.
  • locate and shelve books either by alphabetical or Dewey decimal system order
  • access and search the library system on a technology device
  • demonstrate safe use of a technology device

5th Grade

By the end of the year, 5th Grade library students will be able to:

  • listen to a fiction or non-fiction piece of writing and answer comprehension questions.
  • locate and shelve books either by alphabetical or Dewey decimal system order.
  • independently access and search the library system on a technology device
  • demonstrate safe use of a technology device
  • recognize appropriate uses of social media
  • suggest safe ways to access and research on the internet
