Writing, writing, writing!

February 7, 2014 | Posted in Uncategorized

Sh’tilim has been hard at work writing stories from their lives during writing workshop. They choose what to write about, so long as it is from their life’s experience. Some kids have been writing about trips they have taken with their families, others about their experience watching the Super Bowl, some about playing with friends, and others about going brushing their teeth before bed. I also introduced other reasons to write, including letters, and using writing to ask people for what you want. Some of you have already enjoyed receiving letters from your children asking for more family time, a later bed time, lunch time food requests, and similar first grade favorites.

Here are the different stages of each session of writing workshop session:

  • Mini-lesson to teach a new writing skill
  • Independent writing time for students, during which teachers conference individually with students, providing feedback and compliments tailored to each child’s writing
  • Sharing time – students share either in pairs or to the whole class

In a few weeks, on February 26th at 11:15am, you are invited to join us for a writing celebration.

We hope to see you there to celebrate our wonderful writers!  AW, AH EB & ALL
