The Positive Impact of Art-Integrated Education

January 13, 2015 | Posted in SJCS

EricWe’re excited to share some news from our Dance Specialist, Eric Johnson! For those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to meet Eric, he teaches dance and movement to our Gan and 1st  graders each Monday.

Moreh Eric is a National Teaching Artist for the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. While teaching a week-long residency  in schools of  the Las Vegas, Nevada school district before winter break, he was invited to teach  a demonstration lesson for the President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts.  Eric presented an integrated geometry/dance lesson on quadrilaterals to the 29 Committee members (each chosen by the last three US Presidents); he also shared information with them about the Kennedy Center’s approach to arts-integrated learning and its powerful and positive impact on teaching and learning in schools throughout the United States.

Eric is the dance specialist for twelve Seattle public and private schools and a leader of professional development workshops nationally and internationally. He works regularly with state arts councils and performing arts organizations throughout the U.S. in training their teaching artists to lead effective arts-integrated instruction. Yasher Koach on to Moreh Eric on his incredible accomplishments — we are so fortunate to have his skills here at SJCS!
