Tuition & Tuition Assistance

Tuition

Tuition is determined annually by the Board of Trustees in December for the following school year. Tuition for 2008-09 is $12,950. Tuition does not include hot lunches or before- and after-school enrichment.

Tuition Assistance

A Jewish day school education requires a financial commitment from each family. From its inception, SJCS has been committed to providing tuition assistance to families who qualify. All Jewish day schools in the Seattle area use the Princeton, New Jersey-based School and Student Services (SSS) to determine the "fair share" tuition for families who apply. This process ensures confidentiality and equity.

Who should apply for Tuition Assessment?

Families who have reviewed their financial situation and feel they need help paying their tuition should apply. Tuition assistance at SJCS is based on demonstrated need. Aid is issued as a grant with no obligation to repay the grant.

How do I apply?

Incoming families applying for admission to SJCS should request a Tuition Assessment Package by calling 206.522.5212 or by e-mail.

  • Complete all the forms and mail your application directly to Linda Sullivan, the independent third party, ( Linda Sullivan, Local Third Party, 208 James St., Suite D, Seattle WA 98104), no later than January 15, 2009. All information is strictly confidential. Applications are dated as received only when fully completed. Requests for Tuition Assessment will not be reviewed by SSS prior to SJCS' receipt of your Application and the $100 Application Fee.
  • Keep a photocopy of the application for your records.

How is aid determined?

SJCS is committed to need-based aid. Applications are analyzed by School and Student Services (SSS). These results are then reviewed by the independent third party and an impartial Tuition Assessment Committee (TAC), which looks at various factors, including the Jewish cost-of-living in Seattle, before making the final assessment.

What is the deadline for making a tuition assessment request?

The deadline for receiving completed forms for new families is January 15, 2009. Late applications will be processed only after those that meet the deadline. Tuition assistance may not be available for families who fail to meet the deadline. Families are notified of their tuition assistance assessment when offers of admission are mailed on March 19, 2009.

What if my financial circumstances change?

You should inform the Tuition Assistance Committee.

Will my child receive aid in subsequent years?

A family must reapply for assessment each year. If one's financial situation changes significantly, that change will be reflected in the assessment. In addition, if your financial situation undergoes significant change in the year for which aid was granted, you should notify us immediately.
